Can Antibiotics Prescribed After Surgery Be The Cause Of Acne On Face, Chest And Shoulders?

i m 25 and had a cone biopsy last September. i never had really bad skin until after the surgery. now my face is scared from reoccurring acne, in which nothing seems to help get rid of it or the dark spots. & then there is the acne that is on my chest & shoulders. i understand this was a major surgery for my body to over take but i am not stressed and i eat healthy and work out, so what could this be? i thought the acne came from the antibiotics that they prescribed me to, or even the pain killers but i have been done with my antibiotics and no long take the pain killers since sometime in October. please help. id like my skin back to being as beautiful as it once was.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Stress could to be the likely precursor in your case of Acne.

Another possibility is of Pityrosporum folliculitis which is actually due to yeast overproliferation of the sebaceous follicles leading to development of itchy papules and pustules over trunk and chest and even on face. This seems more likely since you have recently been on a lot of oral antibiotics thus allowing the yeast to proliferate uninhibited.

If i was your treating doctor i would have asked you to apply a topical antimicrobial gel (Benzoyl peroxide 2.5 % gel twice daily over the whole affected area).

As a treating dermatologist you might also require either Doxycycline Or Azithromycin depending on the condition.

An oral antifungal like itraconazole 100mg twice daily for a week would help in case it is pityrosporum folliculitis.

I would advice that you see a dermatologist for a confirmatory diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

take care
regards
