Can An Injured Thumb Be Broken If It Pains At The Knuckle Even After 2 Weeks?

Hi, I injured my thumb about 2 weeks ago. I went to the er and had an X-ray, they said nothing was broken. However now 4 weeks later the knuckle where it webs together with my hand looks disfigured and I still have a lot of pain doing anything with it. I'm not sure how long a sprain would last, as well as the swollen dis formed look. Maybe it is broken and they just didn't see it. Any info would help. Thank you.

I would like you to get a repeat x ray of your hand as there may be chances that a hair line fracture is missed. Also some time fracture is not clearly seen in fresh x ray but get visible after a week or two. Any way some time sprain can lead to massive swelling. At present my advice to you is if x ray shows no fracture, apply hot water at thumb, do regular movement as thumb can get stiff very quickly. i hope that swelling and deformity will be better soon.
