Can Allergies Cause Low BP And Fatigue While On BP Medications?

Normally, without medication, I have high blood pressure but thankfully, by taking an Rx daily, my blood pressure readings are close to normal, with occasional exceptions like today. I am very tired and draggy so I took my blood pressure, and the reading was 88/63. My normal range is 120-135/80-85. I got a full night s rest and haven t eaten or imbibed anything unusual. Could allergies be the cause? I m highly allergic to everything outside and although I get weekly allergy shots, sometimes I still feel the effects of allergies. I don t have any allergic effects now, just a feeling of listlessness or no energy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are having low blood pressure and you are on your prescription medicines. You are also getting allergy shots weekly. Since you are on weekly allergy shots, low blood pressure that you are experiencing is not due to allergy. You are feeling listlessness or no energy due to low BP. Low BP commonly occurs due to dehydration, take adequate quantity of water and fluids.

Diabetes and conditions affecting the parathyroid or adrenal glands, such as Addison's disease, may cause blood pressure to drop. Get it checked. Deficiency of vitamin B-12, folate and iron can keep the body from producing enough red blood cells (anemia), which can lead to low blood pressure.

Take food rich in vitamin B12 or you can also take supplements. Sometime, heart valve disease and an extremely low heart rate (bradycardia) can cause low blood pressure. Get clinically examined by a Cardiologist. Get all routine cardiac function tests be done. You will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
