Can Alcohol Be The Cause Of High SGPT And SGOT Levels?
hi, i am 29 years old,6'/74kgs weight. I had complete body check up last week, in my LFT my SGPT and SGOT levels were reported very high. 119 and 89 respectively. I used to drink alchohal daily for sometime, after my tests i have quit alchohal and taking homemade normal food without much of spice and oil. I will be greatfull if you can suggess me some diet chart to reduce these levels and what is the possible time frame by which these will be in control. regards
SGPT and SGOT are markers of liver functions. As alcohol metabolized in liver and cause liver toxicity. In primary stage of alcohol induced fatty liver these both enzymes are elevated than normal. it may suggest alcohol induced liver damage. Level automatically reduced if you wont drink alcohol further.
It may get elevated in other liver disease also so need to go for further investigations like ultrasound.
GGT has high specificity to measure liver damage and prognosis.
Better to avoid alcohol for better physical andn psychological health. Consult physician for further help.
Glad to help you further.
Thank you.
