Adenoids are the lymphoid tissue whose function is to provide immunity to the new born child until the age of 2years. It gets bigger because of repeated infections, causing nasal block, snoring, sometimes ear problems and decreased appetite. It starts regressing by the age of 6 and completely disappears by puberty in most of the individuals. Initially medicines are used to control the problem, but if the symptoms do not subside even with the best of medical treatment, only then the surgery is planned.
If you feel enough attempts have been made giving medicines, you can definitely go for surgery. And, waiting for another 5-6 months might not cause much harm to the child.
Regards
Dr. Naveen Kumar
