Can A Bump On The Forehead Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

My seven year-old just fell into a door entry way with trim and has a bump on the right side of his forehead/top of head that is the size of a half egg. We re icing, his pupils are larger than ours and other than icing 20 minutes on and off, is there anything else I should do?

The forehead and scalp have an abundant blood supply, and injury to these areas often results in bleeding under the skin. When the bleeding is restricted to one area, it causes bruising and swelling. Doctors refer to this as a hematoma. Keep in mind that even a minor head bump can cause a large swelling. Occasionally, a blow to the head may be severe enough to cause bleeding in or around the brain. This type of bleeding can cause an intracranial hematoma, a serious condition that puts pressure on the brain. Seek emergency medical attention if you experiences: unconsciousness, confusion or disorientation or change in pupil size immediately after a head injury or after some time has passed.
Also seek emergency attention if you exhibits the following signs or symptoms after a head injury, which could be signs of a concussion: persistent or worsening headache, imbalance, vomiting, memory loss, or mood changes.
Do:
Cold compress – this is the best way to reduce bump or swelling. You can use ice pack, cold and damp towel.
Eat more protein such as egg and cheese to fasten tissue repair
Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins from blood circulation
Don’t
Massaging the bump – massaging will disturb natural process of healing and it delays healing.

Best of luck!!
