Can A Baby Survive With Extra Fluid Around The Body During Pregnancy?
I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and when I was 9 weeks the doctors noticed extra fluid around my babies neck. The first thing that came to mind was I would miscarry or have a child with down syndrome. Im coming on 20 weeks and the fluid is now all over the baby, what are the chances of my baby surviving? what should I do?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Fluid all over the fetus is suggestive of fetal hydrops, and is present in: 1. Chromosomal anomalies 2. Genetic syndromes 3. Any other congenital anomaly 4. Fetal anemia 5. Fetal infection I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist so that a detailed anomaly ultrasound can be done and further management should be done accordingly. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
