Can Xifaxan And Korlym Be Taken Together?

Hi, Have been diagnosed with SIBO. Will be starting Xifaxan. I am highly allergic to Penicillin and Sulfa. Is Xifaxan ok to take? Also, any side affects I should be aware of? Also diagnosed with Cushings and currently taking Korlym. Any issues with taking both Xifaxan and Korlym? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since there are no documented harmful interactions between these two, so they can be taken together. Xifaxan (Rifaximin) is an antibiotic effectively used for killing unwanted bacteria in the small intestine and eradicating small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

Generally, it's well tolerated however its common side effects include flatulence, orange-red discoloration of the urine, flu-like symptoms, and liver dysfunction. It can be taken safely along with Korlym (mifepristone) as there are no documented harmful interactions between the two prescribed medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
