Can Remicade Be Taken For Crohn S Disease?

Hi, I have been diagnosed Crohn s disease. I have been told that Remicade will help. I am 70 years old. I have COPD severe at end stages. I have had blood clots, one kidney, tachycardia. I catch a cold easily, have been on antibiotics 5 times in the past year. I am fearful of Remicade because of the lung problems. Do you suggest I not take remicade or would it be safe for me.? Thank you, YYYY@YYYY

Dear sir reminder is a Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker.

This medication is used to treat

1.arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis of the spine, psoriatic arthritis).
2.certain bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).
3.certain severe skin disease (chronic plaque psoriasis).

In these conditions, the body's defense system (immune system) attacks healthy tissues. Infliximab works by blocking the actions of a certain natural substance (tumor necrosis factor alpha) in the body. This helps to decrease swelling (inflammation) and weaken your immune system, which slows or stops the damage from the disease.

Absolute contraindications for the use of infliximab
1.Active infection,
2.acute or chronic Solid cancer or hematological
malignancy.
3.Heart failure, class III or IV (NYHA)
4.Demyelinating disease

Relative contraindications for the use of infliximab

Situations associated with a high risk of infection:
1.latent untreated tuberculosis,
2.chronic infections,
3.uncontrolled diabetes
4.Cancer diagnosed more than 5 years ago, treated, and considered cured
5.Premalignant lesions, e.g., polyps in the colon or urinary bladder, cervical dysplasia, myelodysplasia
6.Pregnant or breastfeeding woman.

Your already suffering from copd with repeated pulmonary infections, so this condition immunity already less so better to avoid remecade injection(by considering relative Contraindications). If any query please consult physician.
Thank you
