Can Omega-3-Acid Ethyl Esters, Aspirin And Welchol Be Taken Together?

I am concerned about fish oil and what I hear from friends. My doctor as suggested that I take Omega-3-Acid Ethyl Esters Capsules USP i gram, (Prescription) with dosage of 2 each morning and 2 each evening for high Cholestarol. I take Welchol 625 mg with the same dosage. I take a baby aspirin at night. One friend says that their doctor says fish oil and aspirin thins the blood too much. Another friend says that their doctor says the he doesn t need fish oil and welchol. What is your advice for me taking these drugs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Fish oil has been been shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
This risk is individual, this means that your risk is different from your friends risk.

What one person may need for health benefits and to stop them from getting a heart attack or stroke, another person may not need.
Your doctor, not your friends, may be a better position, to determine your risk.

There is an optimal dose of these supplement like all medications , if it is used within this range then this is fine, if it is used outside of this then there would be a problem.
You should let your doctor know about all the medication that you are taking so that you do not use too much or too little of anything

I hope this helps
