Can Kawasaki Disease Cause Skin To Peel Off From The Hands?
More than 50 years ago I was sick and had a fever. I do not remember the other symptoms but was given penicillin by a doctor. I remember when I was well enough to return to high school, the skin on my hands peeled off. Later, I wondered if I was allergic to penicillin (though I had received shots of it as a younger child). So I always tell medical providers that I am sensitive to the drug. But now I wonder if I had Kawasaki disease and that caused my skin to peel.
Kawasaki disease is a childhood disease involving skin, oral mucosa and lymph nodes also called mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome. As the rash occurs on skin in this disease, the peeling of skin is likely to occur after healing of the rash. So, it is normal.
