General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

These drugs are commonly prescribed to treat infertility associated with polycystic ovaries and are considered to be safe during pregnancy. These drugs are not known to cause omphalocele in a baby.

Common side effects of glucophage include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, weight loss, and metallic taste. Common side effects of ovafin include hot flushes, abdominal discomfort, headache, breast discomfort, and multiple pregnancy.

Exact cause of omphalocele is not known however it is associated with certain genetic diseases like chromosomal anomalies.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
