Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having trouble controlling my blood pressure. Should I take DOPA Mucuna? I ended a relationship and my sister died within a 6 month period and I feel so sad and cry all the time. This product was suggested to me. My email address is YYYY@YYYY .
Dopa Mucuna is an ayurvedic herbal formulation which contains Levodopa which is a dopamine precursor which along which along with Carbidopa is used to treat Parkinson's Disease. It is also claimed to be useful in the treatment of depression and sexual dysfunction.
Since its safety and efficacy is not proved on any clinical trials hence FDA has not approved it for the treatment of Parkinson's disease or depression or high blood pressure.Based on the history given you seem to be having some sort of depression for which I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for proper evaluation and treatment involving antidepressants like selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. Your blood pressure also needs to be rechecked and treated accordingly.
Hope the advice given above would be useful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
