i have my baby boy now 5 month will complete on 9th january, can i start cerelac rice and mixed fruit can with nutition from outside and also can start smashed bananas? he had diarhea recently a bit motions still.. but now ok so i worry if should start all above now.. as milk is not enough for him now.. please advise.
At this age you can start giving Cerelac stage one rice or Nestum rice stage 1 etc. All are same in calories and energy. Only thing is palatability which is subjective for each kid. Other home-made food options will be - 1. Daal and rice well cooked and made into a porridge along with ghee 2. Boiled apple or banana and mashed into a paste. 3. Any made cereal porridge preparation with additional ghee added. Remember certain principles like - 1. Add one food material / cereal or fruit per week. This will be useful because if he develops vomiting or diarrhoea, we will know what to avoid. 2. Add vegetables and fruits made into a paste surely to avoid constipation. 3. Do not add too much sugar as it may cause diarrhoea. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
HI WELCOME TO HCM In my opinion breast milk is the best food for any infant till 6 months of age. In case you feel that the amount is not sufficient, try Lactogen 1 or Nan Pro1 till he turns 6 months old. In the mean while you may give small amounts of finely smashed fruits from outside but take utmost care regarding hygiene. 1-2 small cups of complementary feeds are fine if the kid is tolerating. Avoid any cow milk, or complex proteins such as non vegetarian diet or eggs till 1 year of age.
