Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
May I take Celebrex along with Diovan HCT that I am already taking? I also am on Warfarin for the rest of my life due to blood clots and a pulmonary embolism. I am hesitant to start Celebrex but my orthopedic dr. wants to put me on it for pain from bursitis in my left hip. I have had several cortisone injections over the last 18 months and the last one I had Dec. 26th doesn't seem to be helping. I have not had a decent night's sleep since before Thanksgiving. He thinks this might help me especially at night.
I read your question and I understand your concern.
There are some implications at using those drugs together, because they may affect kidney function and the potential for that increases when used together. Celebrex and Valsartan (one of the components of Diovan HCT) both increase potassium levels, although this last effect should be counterbalanced by Hidrochlorthiazide (HCT) which decreases potassium. Celebrex also increases blood pressures acting the opposite of Diovan.
Celebrex could also interact with Warfarin as they both are blood thinners and there's a greater risk of hemorrhage.
So I would be careful with Celebrex, if really necessary considering your pain perhaps on sporadic occasions, not long term use.
I hope to have been of help.
