Can Cefdinir Be Taken For Sore Throat And Cough While On Lipitor?

I was prescribed cefdinir on a wait and see basis last Saturday. I have been ill since last Wednesday evening, chills, terrible cough from terrible nasal drip, wicked sore throat, eyes mucousy. I have not been able to resume normal activities yet. Should I start to take this drug. The possible side effects look serious. I am 68, on blood pressure Meds and Lipitor.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Cefdinir is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections such as common cold, flu.
You should take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once a day or twice a day and take this drug at evenly spaced intervals.
This drug does not have interaction with blood pressure medications or lipitor.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
