Can Amoxicillin Be Taken For Nasal Drip And Infection?

amoxicillan TRK CLV 875-125 would that be used for a nasal infection... (post nasal drip?) causing small light green (dime sized) phlegm being coughed up 2-3 times a day for 3-4 days. Patient history COPD 2005- 5 way bypass 1996 - type II diabetic 1989 A1C 7.4. Pneumonia age 5 and 7 times since.. none in the last 2 years. Previously have taken Cipro when this happens (successfully) but have moved and only have amox available at the moment.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome HCM,

As per your query you have post nasal drip along with infection . Well the symptoms you mention in query occur due to many reasons ,But in your case the symptoms are probably due to sinusitis. Sometimes ear infection occur when infection from upper respiratory track infection , post nasal drip or sinusitis spread through eustachian tube . Yes you can take amoxicillin , but the infection can also due to viral infection so I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and take medicine after proper checkup only . Doctor may order certain tests like CT scan , blood test and examination with otoscope . Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug , antibiotics (amoxxicillin or penicillin ) or antiviral drug in case of viral infection . For now do warm saline gargles and take steam twice daily .
