Can Amlodipine And Grapefruit Be Taken Together?

I just started taking Amlodipine 5 mgs daily and Took the first dose at night. I also purchased grapefruit before Knew Would be prescribed this durg. Is there anyway I coul safely take the Amlodipine and eat the grapefruit, or should I give the grapefruit away?

It's not safe to take Amlodipine together with grapefruit. When taken along with Amlodipine, grapefruit will increase the levels or blood pressure lowering effects of Amlodipine by affecting it liver metabolism (clearance from the body). This can result in excessive fall in blood pressure. Hence, you should avoid taking grapefruit while on Amlodipine.
