Can Amiodarone, Simvastatin And Warfarin Be Taken Together?

I am a home health RN and just started seeing a patient. I am concerned over his medications and possible interactions. He is on amiodarone, combined with simvistatin, warfarin, and trazodone. I am trying to to educate myself on how serious any interactions might be and what to watch for. He is in renal failure and CHF already!

Hi ! Thank you for posting your questions here.

I would give you some information about the possible interaction between these drugs and what to look for .Here they are :
- Amiodarone - warfarin : amiodaron increase warfarine efect and the patient may be bleeding , be aware of this sign :bruising, any bleeding, blood in urine or stools, headache ,vomiting, dizziness ,weakness. The patient has to check INR every 6month .
- Amiodaron- simvastatine: Amiodaron increases the blood levels of simvastatine in result increase the risk of the side effect of simvastatine -liver damage and muscle damage leading to a condition that we call rhabdomyolisis and kidney problems .Be aware of these symptoms;: muscles pain or joint pain, tenderness , weakness ,nause , vomiting , dark urine, yellow skin or eyes. The patient should check the liver and muscles every 6 months.

-Amiosarone -trazodone ; can increase the chances of iregular heart beat but is very rare.
Amiodaron alone has many side effect: hypersensitivity pneumonitis( problem breathing ,cough,) , blurred vision , photosensitivity ,a halo in the eyes( microdeposition in the cornea), hypotension, hypothyroidism .

Make sure that the patient controls the liver , heart ,muscles , thyroid, lungs , INR , every 6 months .If you see any of the symptoms that I mentioned above call the treating doctor.

Wish these help.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me .
