Brief Episodes Of Pain And Weakness In Upper Legs And Hips. Overweight. Any Thoughts?

two months ago I had an episode of extreme pain and weakness in my upper legs and hips. IThis greatly affected my ability to walk or to stand for more than fifteen minutes. I have had this type of episode off and on for the last six months. They were however brief. I have had much difficulty rising from a sitting position and climbing stairs.I also have Discoid Lupus and the Rhematologist gave me a Dx of Fibro.I have seen some improvement. I can stand for two to three hours now without having to lie down. However I have pain in my hips and thighs. I am wondering if you can have problems with the hips and thighs but not the arms and shoulders. I have some weakness in my arms and some muscle fatigue feeling in my shoulders but I would consider insignificant. I also continue to have days that standing is very painful. I Have been about eighty pounds overweight all of my adult life. I have been very active walking six miles four times a week and hiking in montainous settings and four to six hours outside maintaining acerage and walking about one and a half miles nightly at my nursing job. one more thing. I do not have pain when I wake up. I have pain about a half hour to an hour after being on my feet. Any thoughts?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All your symptoms
*pain and weakness in lower limbs
* inablility to walk or stand for prolonged time
suggests that you have some problem in the LUMBAR SPINE. Either it could be a disc disease or spinal canal stenosis.

Weakness in the upper limbs could be related to a problem in the cervical spine.

I advice you to undergo MRI scan of the lumbar spine to rule out the compression element.

Consult an orthopedic surgeon for a detailed evaluation.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
