Blockage In Ear, Hearing Popping Sound. Taking Eye Drops For Pressure. Related Symptoms?

I felt a blockage in my right ear last week and kept hearing a muted popping sound. I went to my GP for an exam, and everything looked normal. Because I take eye drops for pressure each day, and am bothered by the liquid draining down my throat, I always bend over and blow the liquid out through my nose. The GP felt that maybe I'd blown to hard and forced the liquid into my ear. A couple days later it stopped, even though the ear ached a bit. Then two days ago I awoke to discover that I could barely see out of my right eye. Everything was dark and pixelated. I got an emergency appointment with my ophthalmologist and she discovered a problem with an artery in the retina. If that wasn't enough, this morning I woke up with both ears blocked and aching. Sounds are very loud and sound as if I'm hearing things echoing inside a metal drum. I will be seeing a retina specialist next week, but wonder if all this is somehow related. Thank you for any advice you might offer.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding blockade in ear with popping and loss of hearing along with common cold.

Your symptoms favors that most likely you are suffering from acute upper respiratory tract infection with secretory otitis media. Here actually you have developed acute cold giving rise to nasal discharge, this discharge is draining back and thus post nasal drip comes in view and ultimately your throat get infected. From throat during the act of nose blowing this infected discharge reaches the middle ear via eustachian tube (tubular connection between throat and ear) thus your ear gets blocked.

For treatment you should do-

1- Antibiotic (preferably broad spectrum)

2- Tab paracetamol.

3- Steam inhalation.

4- Anti histamine.

5- Decongestant.

I hope this will help you, but even after you have any problem than consult your ENT doctor.

Regards.
