Being Treated For Corneal Ulcer. Prescribed Vegamox Homide. Near Vision Blurry. Continue Medications?

Hi Doctor,

I've been treated for Corneal Ulcer. My doctor prescribed me Vegamox (5 times/d), Refresh Tears (5 times/d) , Acivir ointment (5 times/d) , Homide (2 times/d, one before sleep) and Acupol (before sleep). After examining my eye doctor told me that I have ulcer which is not at the center of cornea. Doctor told me that I'll see blurry from infected eye as I''ll be using very small quantity of Acivir 5 times a day. Today my 2nd day on these meds and I'm seeing improvement in terms of redness and pain in my eye but I've observed that my near vision is hazy and blurry ( I observed it after an hr when i woke up in the morning before taking any ointment). My questions is, Is that fine to take Vigamox along with Homide, Also, Why my near vision is hazy/blurry as there was a good interval when I last applied Acupol ointment before i went to sleep last night? Please suggest.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi Friend I am Dr Bilal and I am an Ophthalmologist
Welcome to Health Care Magic and thanks for writing to us .
I would like to answer your question and your satisfaction is my goal .

First of all , i would like to highlight here is that it is a very common side effect which you are experiencing and it it because of homide eye drops . Basically Homide drops contain Homatropine , which dilates the pupil and as well as causes cycloplegia by paralyzing the ciliary muscles with resulting loss of accomodation . That is why you are experiencing hazy and blurred vision . Cycloplegic eye drops are basically prescribed to give rest to the eye . The duration of action of Homatropine is around 48 to 72 hours . So need not to worry . I would recommend you to keep using the medication as prescribed by your eye doctor . I would like to tell you that you should use sun glasses while moving out , and do not operate any machinery / drive as long as you would be using Homide eye drops .

I hope you that you will find my answer helpful
Wish you a speedy recovery .
Good luck .
Best Regards .
