Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking Gefitinib ?

I am SAIDUR RAHMAN from Bangladesh. My father is a patient of lung cancer. his surgery was done during february 2010 at dhaka. after surgery he has been taking "gefitinib" once a day. now doctor is saying that he is in the 4th stage of cancer. i want to bring him at mumbai and consult with a specialist. pls suggest.

I can understand your concern.
See, lung cancer is progressive disease. It is not 100%curable. Surgery is mostly done for symptomatic relief and slow progression of disease.
So his worsening of cancer is not due to chemotherapeutic drug, gefitinib.
At present, with stage 4 lung cancer, only palliative treatment is available. So better to consult YYYYYYYYYY, YYYYYYY. It is the best hospital for cancer in world.
Regarding, side effects of gefitinib, it can cause gastritis, nausea, vomiting, bone marrow suppression, skin ulcers, oral ulcers, loss of scalp hair etc.
