Are There Any Side Effects From Withdrawal From Pramipex 1?

I am a parkinson patient and now taking syndopa plus 3 times daily and pramipex 1 twice daily. My Dr advised to stop pramipex because of dosiness and allergy etc. I hv reduce the med. to stop it by next week but now i am restless in the night, sleep less etc. Your advice is appreciated as to whether it is better to stop pramipex 1 now. Thank you

Hello,

Pramipraxole is used to maintain the level of dopamine in the brain via actions over D 3 receptors of the brain. However, sudden tapering of the dose of Pramipraxole is associated with withdrawal features as palpitation, insomnia, vivid dreams and others. I would recommend following regimen for dose tapering without much of the ill effects as:
- Consume 1.5 tablets daily for a week
- 1 tablet daily for next 10 days
- 0.5 tablet daily for next 10 days
- 0.5 tablet alternate day for next 7 days
- Stop after that

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
