Are There Any Particular Spots In Body To Use TENS Unit?
is there certain places I should put the TENS unit has when using it for my Saturday night palsy. I acquired it in my left arm 3 weeks ago and woke up today with my right arm in the same condition of my left I m unable to use my left hand or right hand is there a certain spot or I should use my TENS unit?
TENS- Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation is the procedure in which low voltage current is applied to the site of pain. It stimulates the nerve and alleviates the pain by altering the pain stimulation at the spinal cord level. There is no proven theory to confirm the pain relief due to TENS. TENS can be applied directly over the site of pain through the electrode placement over the skin.
It should not be used over the neck and eyes which may cause hypotension due to decreased blood pressure and increases the pressure in the eye respectively. Repeated use of TENS develops tolerance. It can be used with other oral analgesics. Visit the physician for further evaluation and management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
