Are Swollen Ankle, Rashes On Leg And Low BP Side Effects Of Losartan?

My doctor had me double my dosage of Losartin from 50 to 100 mg. I now have a rash on my right leg from ankle up to about 8 inches ...and my ankles are swollen more than usual, and I have not eaten salt. My blood pressure has not gone down (I realize this is soon) but I don t like the side effects of the double dose. What do you suggest? I also take Crestor.

Hello
Losartan is an angiotensin II antagonists and its first dose ( increased dose ) produces HYPOTENSION, RASH angioedema, neutropenis G I disturbance and many more side effects ( in your case the dosage has increased 50 to 100 mg ,so these side effects may be the reason of increased dose).
But within 2-3 days , these side effects will subsides and dose will adjust .
As far as concerned about the swelling on the ankle and above , the reason may be :
1 Congestive heart failure , diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination and by ECHO .
2 Hypo proteinemia may be the another reason of such swelling , so get in blood examination for protein level .
3 Chronic renal failure , as this is another such cause particularly in patient having on treatment for high blood pressure.
I recommend you consult a CARDIOLOGIST and get his opinion.
Hope this will help you.
