Are Swelling And Pain In The Armpit After Receiving A Shingrix Shot Normal?

I pulled a muscle in my left arm, reaching behind me. This was in January. Still have upper arm pain and a bit of swelling in my armpit. Had my Shingrix vaccine on Monday. Of course, more pain. But now my armpit is even more swollen and painful. Is this normal? I did run a fever Monday night, after receiving the second vaccine dose.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is normal to have fever the first day after taking the Shingrix vaccine. It is also normal for the area where the vaccine is administered to be slightly red and swollen. It should not affect the whole arm though. I think that your pulled muscle is not healed completely if your arm is still sore at that location and also if it is swollen. Without a physical examination though I am not able to tell where is the problem and what is going on exactly. For this reason, I would recommend that you see a local doctor who can examine you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Klarida Papaqako
