Are Sore Throat, Cough With Mucus, Painful Neck Glands And Fever Suggestive Of HIV Infection?

Hi, I m worried I m showing some symptoms of HIV. I m male, I broke up with my girlfriend around 4 months ago and she recently told me that towards the end of our relationship she cheated and that the man she d cheated on me with recently tested positive for a number of STD s but she has yet to tell me which ones he has and if there s a chance I ve been out at risk of catching any. I ve spoken to some people who know him and from what I ve been told he is showing signs of HIV. (Dry cough, weight loss, fever and other flu like symptoms) My mind has been going around the block. I ve got a swore throat, a mucousy cough (just got over a cold), the glands on my neck are aching and I ve had a mild fever on and off for around 2 weeks. Am I just being paranoid? I ve yet to book an appointment for an STI test at my local hospital but I m worried the results will be what I m frightened about the most. I feel like this could possibly be a death sentence for me if the news is bad.

Though HIV seroconversion (first symtpoms of HIV) typically present with flue, fever, swollen glands and a rash. However these symptoms are not specific for HIV and any viral infection can cause all these symptoms.

So it's possible to be HIV symptoms but these symptoms are more commonly caused by other common viral infection. The point is that the HIV seroconversion generally occur at 1 to 2 months after contact, so if you had sex with her 4 moths back, these symptoms should have occurred too earlier.

So while there is a possibility but less likely. Second important point is that diagnosis of HIV is no more a death sentence. The newer highly active agents are extremely effective and most people live their normal life if diagnosed and treated for HIV on time.
