Are Painful Popping Of Ears Followed By Dizziness And Muffled Hearing A Cause For Concern?

I ve had cold symptoms for 3 days now. Have been taking Zycam during the day and Nyquil at night. I have been blowing my nose a lot to get rid of drainage and this morning I felt able to breath through my nose again. My left ear, however, started hurting with what felt like an ear infection. I sneezed at a stop light while and both my ears popped and I had a sudden onset of dizziness that almost made me pass out. It subsided quickly though but both ears sounded muffled and my left ear was hurting more than it had.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms such as popping of ears followed by dizziness and muffled hearing which are pointing towards injury to nerve endings in the middle ear which could be due to exposure to loud sound, due to certain medicines like anti inflammatory, allergy, and sinusitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order blood test , CT scan , MRI or hearing test like audiogram. If there is infection of middle ear or sinusitis then doctor may prescribe antibiotics .For now avoid loud sound , exercise for half an hour daily (light walk) , reduce intake of tea and coffee and try to keep stress level low.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
