Are Orange Colored Urine And Difficulty In Urinating Due To Side Effects Of Morphine?

A few days ago, my husband started taking Morphine (15mg ER) every 8 hours. He has noticed that his urine is bright orange now and he is having some difficulty urinating. Should he be going to the ER or just contacting his doctor or....? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is unrelated to morphine. If you are other medicines it can get excreted in the urine and can causes orange or red tinge to urine. Minor bleeding due to stones can also cause dark coloured urine.

A urine routine and microscopic examination is required to check whether the colour is due to blood cells or other pigments.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
