Are Having Heart Palpitations Post Excessive Alcohol Intake A Cause For Concern?

I have Been having heart palpitations ever since I ve woke up. I have been at a 4 day concert and pretty much drank very heavily every night. I was just wondering if it was normal to be experiencing them after drinking, how long the will last, and if they are common after drinking?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, I really appreciate your concern. Palpitation has been associated with heavy alcohol intake. Studies have proven that alcohol consumption may trigger atrial fibrillation which is a form of cardiac arrhythmia. In case of acute alcohol consumption palpitation may subside after cessation of alcohol. But if you regularly drink high amount of alcohol then it is a matter of concern for your heart. So avoid heavy drinks. You can have it in minute amount which can be beneficial for your heart.
Hope my answer has solved your query. Take Care.
Thank you.
