Are Finger Prick Test Results Valid For HIV Testing?

hello. I have been w/ partner for 7 years. he and i recently seperated. during that 2 and a half months he and i had sex (unprotected) every weekend. He had moved to a different town and was dating/ having sex with others. I dont know how much of it was protected or not. We worked things out and upon getting back together i asked him to get a hiv test. he had been clean 3 months prior. he took it (the finger prick test) and it came back positive. He topped me (he penetrated me anally) about 2 weeks prior. Question is...how valid are the finger prick tests? he has had false positives before...just really scared! we have blood work done but labs wont be back for 2 weeks. Any suggestions/ help?

thank you for query.it is not clear about the type of test which has been undertaken though by finger prick.if otc tests then there are slight chances of results to be either negative or positive.So if in doubt please consult the accredited lab for tests based on the duration since exposure.test in both of you for HIV.Do not draw to conclusion.You can get back to me for any clarifications with details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist.
