Hi, I have suffered really bad depression for years and have been on many different types of meds. I can t afford to see a shrink although I do believe I would benefit from seeing one. Anyway my question is...I m on 40 mg lovan in the morning and 15 mg avanza and 10 mg of diazepam off a night. Is this safe?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Lovan 40 is Fluoxetine and Avanza is Mirtazapine. Fluoxetine is a SSRI drug and is usually given in morning times as it has potential to cause insomnia. Mirtazapine is nor-adrenalin specific serotonin antidepressant. It has mechanism of action different than Fluoxetine. Mirtazapine causes increased sleep and this is the reason that it is given in night hours. In severe depression combination of two anti-depressants is usually given. Both drugs are safe to use and are not associated with serious side effects. Diazepine is a benzodiazepine drug and it helps in sleep, long term use of this drug is not advised because of risk of dependence.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
