Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Viral infections are the most common cause of upper respiratory tract infections. The drooling may occur if he is experiencing difficulty swallowing because of a sore throat and/or nasal congestion (therefore mouth breathing).

Since he now has a wet cough, the use of mucolytic to help break up the mucus would be helpful. These are available over the counter.

Your local pharmacy maybe able to help you to determine what is available in your area.

I hope this helps
