Anxiety, Arthritis. Been On Klonopin, Detox And Percocet. Will I Feel Better?

I have been klonopin for many years. I currently was taking 2mg. at bedtime, and if I anxiety during the day, I would take an extra one. I did not know how addictive this was. I had asked my Dr. for many years to take me off, and he would always say not yet. I would say to myself he must know better. Then all of sudden, he said to get off klonopin and (Percocet for arthritis) I was greatly misinformed on how to detox correctly, and have been going through hell. My poor husband has been my side and taking care of me. It has been 9 days, some symptoms have decreased. I was wondering how much longer I will expect?

Hello
Welcome to HCM

Klonopin is clonazepam and it is a benzodiazepine drug. This is a drug with very high dependence potential so when any person discontinue this drug abruptly there is risk of withdrawal syndrome. The symptoms of increased anxiety in you are due to this withdrawal only. Best thing that should be done to prevent withdrawal is to taper the dose of drug slowly. You have been taking very high doses of clonazepam so best thing to be done is to taper the dose over 4 weeks. You have passed critical first week, now there is no need to take the medicines again but if symptoms of anxiety recurs then you can take less addicting benzodiazepine like etizolam on sos basis with consultation of your doctor.

Thanks
