Hello,

'Next choice' is an emergency contraceptive pill. When taken within 72 hours after birth control failure or unprotected sex. The sooner it's taken, the better it works. Yes, if taken as instructed, it will give protection against pregnancy but it is a one time medicine and will not work for multiple unprotected penetrative intercourse.

It is a backup method of preventing pregnancy and should not be used as regular birth control because it's not as effective. If you are not planning for a baby, you should be in regular contraceptive pill or implant / device. You are suggested to consult a health care provider or an OBGYN for regular CP / implant / device. You should avoid addictions if any for the best efficacy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
