6 Year Kid, Intermittent Bouts With Diarrhea, Vomiting In Middle Of Night. What Could Be This?

A friend of mine's daughter. She is 6 years old. For the last year she has experienced intermittent bouts with diareah and vomiting. It is always in the middle of the night. It happens every couple of weeks. She goes to bed about 10 - 11 pm and between 3 and 5 am she will wake up vomiting and diareah. She goes back to sleep and when she wakes up she is fine.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Dear

Welcome to the Health care Magic.

Dear Sir loose motions and vomits are the symptoms of stomach infections.
children are quite prone for stomach infection.

Prevention is very important

Always give children freshly cooked food.

Milk should be boiled every 4 to 6 hours not merely giving the milk to child by simply warming the milk.

Avoid heavy ,oily meals in the evening.

General hygiene to be checked. and always explain children regarding maintaining the hygienic way of life.

Always check the sign and symptoms of dehydration in such child. Because such child get easily get dehydrated during vomtings and loose motions.

Hope your query is answered with your satisfaction.

Thanks

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Is it always happening in the night and the child is normal by morning?
Does the child complain of headache or any other associated complaints?
Is there any blood or mucus in the stool?
How many loose motions and vomiting that she has?
If it a simple gastroenteritis it should be present after she wakes up also.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
