11 Year Old With Pain In The Head And Headache After An Injury. Given Acetaminophen. Anything Else To Do?
Hello, my 11 yr old son was jumping on a trampoline earlier today and hit the top of his head on a metal basketball hoop that was hanging overhead. He put ice on it for a while. Later he said he couldn't sleep because the top of his head hurt and he had a headache. I gave him some acetomenophin. He woke up an hour later complaining of the same thing. I just sent him to go back to bed. Should I be worried? Thank you.
Hi dear,
Thanks for your query to health care magic. Pain in the head is due to scalp injury. Give analgesics like acetaminophen as you are giving. Keep a watch on danger signs like drowsiness, vomiting, seizures and progressive head ache - all these suggest that there is some internal injury to brain. Most of the times he is having a bruise externally. But if his head ache is not improving eve after say six hours then no harm in getting a doctor's opinion to be sure that nothing serious is going on.
don't worry he will be fine.
Take care

After a head injury there are certain danger signs one should be watchful of.
They are vomiting, seizures, loss of consciousness, bleeding from nose and ear. If they are present consult your doctor immediately.
Continue with the over the counter analgesics and consult your doctor if symptoms persist.
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
