Question: my son (age 6) had a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy 10/3. He has been recovering well and drinking plenty of fluids night and day and taking his pain meds. He also has not had anything not on the %E2%80%9Capproved%E2%80%9D soft food list sent from the hospital.
He spit out something very small and white which i am thinking is a tiny piece of scab. No evidence of bleeding and it has been a couple of hours. I am terrified of the larger risk hemmorrage that comes with this surgery. Is 72 hours too soon for a scab? Do they actually come into the mouth?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. It's very normal to have scab or exudate after tonsillectomy. If your child is having mild pain and he is taking orally adequate food and fluids then there is no need for worry. Hemorrhage after tonsillectomy take place due to infection. Infection occur only when there is inadequate oral food and fluid intake. The chewing movements also helps in increasing the blood supply of the tonsillar bed and helps inadequate healing. So chewing of solid food is very important. Continue the betadine gargle. If there is scab formation then there is less chance of bleeding. So don't worry. Carry out the good work. All the best.

Thank you. I was just concerned it was too soon 3 days post surgery for the scab to be falling off. Is it possible it is coming from adenoid area? Seems to be more of a post nasal situation. He had adenoids removed too. should we expect bits of this whiteish tissue to continue?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. It can be from adenoids but mostly it is from tonsils. I think you have become apprehensive about the surgery. Are you giving a nasoclear nose drops and mometasone nasal spray? Continue these two. I think he is fine and you shouldn't worry about.
