Brief Answer:
Not concerned but...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I assume it's the differential count of lymphocyte that is deranged while absolute lymphocyte count is normal. If this is wrong, correct me during the follow up.

I wouldn't be very worried about abnormalities in differential lymphocyte count when absolute lymphocyte count is normal. However you also have elevated WBC count which is an indication of infection. May I know the reason why you had to undergo blood hemogram test (complete blood count).

Awaiting your response....

oh just routine, my dr says my blood worked all looked overall good, except for my sugar and my cholesterol was a little elevated.

I wont understand what you mean by : "I assume it's the differential count of lymphocyte that is deranged while absolute lymphocyte count is normal. If this is wrong, correct me during the follow up."

what is differential count of lymphocyte ? I had the range wrong ... the range was 20.5-51.1 , mine 17. That what you mean ?

Thanks !

Brief Answer:
If you have the report, kindly upload...

Detailed Answer:
A complete hemogram has multiple test components. Hematologist besides checking total WBC count also reports differential counts of various white blood cells - the neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, basophils as well as eosinophils. And yes, the normal range of differential lymphocyte count is between 20 to 40%. Though your report said 20.5 - 51.1, I still think it's the differential lymphocyte count that was referred to here. If you have the hemogram report with you, please upload it here. There is an option to upload reports and pictures on this site; located at the right side of this page.

And as I mentioned earlier, the differential count hardly matters when absolute count is in normal limits. But you should be evaluated for the cause of high WBC counts. Perhaps it's due to a bacterial infection. Discuss with your treating doctor.

i cant get my picture small enough to attach, but yeah I was just concerned that the percentage was lower than range, but the absolute was normal.

my total white blood count was 12.5

monocytes 3.0 , absolute 0.4

red blood count 4.76

hemoglobin 14.5

Brief Answer:
No worries about low lymphocytes...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Since this is a percentage, when one or more WBC components are elevated, differentially the other will be lower (all the WBC components - neutrophil, lymphocyte, eosinophil, basophil and monocyte differential count should add up to 100%) - thus the name differential count. Therefore you need not worry about low lymphocyte differential. The absolute lymphocytes count is normal.

Total WBC count seems to be marginally elevated. This however should be evaluated. We need to rule out infection (bacterial).

Hope this is clear.
