Question: i have a history of IBS. I am currently experiencing dull pain in the upper portion of my stomach for a couple of weeks, it comes and goes. I've also been diagnosed with mild anemia which is being treated with iron pills by my MD. I have had my esphophagus checked two years ago and it was fine. I also had a complete hysterectomy a year ago. MD cannot rule out some sort of blood loss as yet. Honestly I am concerned it may be an ulcer or possible stomach cancer. I don't vomit, i don't have nausea and I have not lost weight.

Brief Answer:
Side effect of ferrous salt(Iron).

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for choosing "Ask a Doctor" query for your service,
Have gone through your details and I appreciate your concerns,
Gastric ulcer or gastritis is initially associated with severe nausea and pain which respond to antacids.
The main side effect of Iron salt is severe gastric problems specially stomach ache, Spasms, and gut upset. Almost seen in 95% patients on iron therapy(ferrous salt any). Being a IBS patient makes you more prone to it.
Solution
Start taking iron polypeptide tablets. Start with 12 mg once daily and after 3 months make it 6 mg once daily. It's a latest salt and is not associated with any gut problem.
You can Google PP26 iron polypeptide tablets.
Tell me how you feel after 21 days.
Hope I was clear cut easy to understand and too the point.
