yeast infection treatment-liver disease
Could you please tell me what treatment should be used for a vaginal yeast infection for a patient with liver disease? Is a 7 day Monistat cream safe? I have read where it is contraindicated for use with liver impairment but don't find any other suggestions for treatment. Thank you.

Hi and thanks for the query
Most of the candidial infections are treated with azoles. Eventhough azoles have hepatotoxicity they are still the drug of choice for fungal infections in Cirrhotics and acute liver failure. Other effective drugs like amphotericin B and Ecchinocardins are injectables used in non responing cases and in decopensated liver disease. These have minimal liver side effects but are costly.
Hence the drug choice is based on the stage of the disease, severity of the infection and affordability
