Brief Answer:
A detailed evaluation is needed.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Black colored stools indicate bleeding or other minor injuries in the upper part of your gastrointestinal system. The altered blood that appears black. Other causes like the intake of certain drugs like iron supplements and certain foods can also cause black stools. However, the most common causes are gastric ulcer bleed. A chronic liver disease is another major cause.
You can consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated to find out the cause.

You have to get an ultrasound followed by a CT scan to look for any possible intraabdominal causes. An upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy may also be required in some cases.
Sometimes chronic constipation can cause small tears in the rectum and cause bleeding and stool may turn blackish.
As of now, you can take stool softeners like lactulose for smooth bowel movements.

Wishing you good health.
Thanks
