What Is The Window Period For HIV Test?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Jul 2014
Question: I had a HIV test here in XXXXXXX through Dr. Lal Path Labs it is one of the best labs, the test is HIV 1 & 2 ANTIBODIES, SCREENING TEST Includes p24 Antigen, method is Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay, i had this test after 3 and half year of exposure.

my Report says.

Index value 0.06
Result Non reactive

Interpretation:
RESULT IN INDEX REVIEW
<1 Non reactive
>=1 Provisionally reactive

COMMENT: Non Reactive result implies that antibodies to HIV1/2 have not been detected in the sample by this method. This means either the patient has not been exposed to HIV 1/2 infection or the sample has been tested during the Window Phase, hence non reactive result does not exclude the possibility of Exposure or infection of HIV1/2,

1) SIR TELL ME ABOUT THE WINDOW PERIOD FOR THIS TEST
2)DO THIS TEST LOOK FOR HIV 2 ANTIBODIES ALSO.
3)PLEASE EXPLAIN ME THE "INTERPRETATION PART OF THE REPORT .. < > THESE SYMBOLS GETTING ON MY NERVES
4) Do i need further test
5) how is dr lal path lab in terms of accuracy

Brief Answer:
Antibodies formed, remains for ever. You are HIVFree

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

< it means lesser than
> it means more than

If the test result came as more than 1 it means you are having HIV.
If the test result came as lesser than 1 then it means you are free from HIV. Your test value is 0.06. It is well below 1 ,so you are free from HIV. Nothing to worry at all.
Antibodies against HIV once developed means they will be present almost till the end of the individuals lifetime. So your test is conclusive that you are free from HIV.

Brief Answer:
Your result is reliable and you are HIV free.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again.

I went through your report.

The comments in your report by the Lab authority is a ready made printed statement present with all reports to save guard themselves from any legal aspects. You need not give much importance to that statement and get confused yourself.

1. LAL PATH Lab is a very standard lab.
2. CMIA 4th generation tests are highly reliable and almost 100% specific. False positive and false negative results are very very rare.
3. You had crossed the window period long back and there is no question of undetectable antibodies in your case.
4. Your index value is well below 1, so you are nonreactive for HIV.
That means you are totally free from HIV.
