Question: i have had a sinus infection/ cold for a about 2 1/2 weeks, one morning about a week and a half ago i woke up with one side of my throat hurting, that lasted for a few days then went away, since i have been sick i have noticed that my mouth seems to get dry fast and i have a lump right in front of my tonsil,(palatoglossal arch) i can feel it when i swallow and it gets better when i drink water, i still have congestion in my nose and a slight cough. the bump does not hurt but if i touch it it makes me gag, its literally right in front of my tonsil near my tongue. it has not changed in size, is this normal? when should it go away

Brief Answer: course of antibiotics Detailed Answer: Hi Mr XXXXXXX Looks like you have longstanding infcetion in the nose and sinuses. The lump that you have seen is probably a larger taste bud. Taste buds are located at the back side of the tongue near the tonsils. They are quite large and can be seen as lump . You will do well with a course of antibiotics to clear the infection in the nose sinuses and the throat. Penicillin group of antibiotics work very well for the upper respiratory tract infections. Also you can use local decongestant nose drops like otrivin to keep your sinuses well ventilated. Instill 3 drops in each nostril 3 times daily for 5 days. Drink lots of water and avois air conditioning. See a doctor to confirm the lump as taste bud and also for the prescription. Regards, Dr Rajkishori Godhi

it does not seem to be on my tongue, it sems to be on the arch is that possible? did you see the pic? Please look at picture, bump is on the side near tonsil, right above tongue I have been losing sleep over this, could the arch be a little inflamed from irritation? Cause I can feel the bumb if my throat is dry.

Brief Answer: not to worry Detailed Answer: Hi mr XXXXXXX I saw the picture. The bump is nothing but part of the arch itself The arch need not always be smooth. It can be irregular. Do not worry. I do not see anything abnormal in the arch, it is perfectly noirmal. not inflamed Detailed Answer: Hi Mr XXXXXXX The arch is not inflamed, there is no need to lose sleep over it. See an ENT specialist if you still have doubt. Regards, Dr Rajkishori Godhi.
