Brief Answer: Consideration Detailed Answer: hello and thank you for sending the question. It is very difficult to determine prognosis in this situation. I would like to see some laboratory results if you can possibly send them. Prognosis is related to other medical problems. If someone has multiple medical issues including heart failure or lung disease this might have a more significant effect on prognosis then myelodysplastic syndrome. it is important to also establish what degree of anemia is caused by the myelodysplastic syndrome. Treatments are available to minimize severity of anemia as well. I think it is very important for you to sit down with the physician and talk about all of the medical problems and which medical problems can be managed well in the setting of myelodysplastic syndrome. If a hematologist has not been consult did this would also be an excellent idea at this time. Again thank you for sending your question. It is very difficult to determine exact right gnosis with any amount of certainty. Sincerely, Dr. G
