What Is The Cause And Treatment Of Testicular Torsion?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Aug 2014
Question: Hi My son just turned 11 in May. I have caught him on several occasions touching himself which has become often. He just mentioned to me and showed me that one of his testicles is higher than the other and he says it hurts a little when he walks. He says when he sits or lays it doesn't hurt at all, I looked and there does not appear to be any swelling or color difference and he still runs and plays, so I know the pain is slight, but I am still a little concerned. What do you think this could be due to and should I take him to the ER. He says it has been about a week he has this going on. Thanks Dr. for your help!!!!

Brief Answer:
Suspect of testicular torsion...

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for posting!

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

According to his symptoms, I think that his symptoms might be related to a testicular torsion. Another factor that can cause such symptoms is mumps(parotitis).

In these cases I recommend bed rest and taking painkillers such as Acetominophen.

To determine the exact diagnosis your son needs a physical examination by his urologist and testicular doppler ultrasound. A complete blood count and an urine test are also necessary.

The results of these test will help the urologist in determining the treatment of this condition.

Ask me for anything unclear.

All the best.
Dr. Behar.
