Brief Answer:
Not very serious usually

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Laryngitis and pharyngitis are common conditions particularly for young individuals.

Most of the times, they are caused by viruses which means that antibiotics have no effect on them. This is probably why he's seen no change on his condition.

Laryngitis is much more frequently caused by viruses than pharyngitis.

Pharyngitis even if caused by bacteria, can usually get better by itself (without treatment), although treatment is prescribed in such cases.

Unless complications appear, these conditions are not considered dangerous.
In case of complications the symptoms do get worse so the stability on your son's situation probably suggests that he just has an ongoing viral illness.

I hope I've helped!

Kind Regards!

I want to thank you very much! I may have a follow-up question, depending on whether my son continues to get better or if the pain gets worse over the next 2 days. XXXX
