Question: I have been diagnosed with UTI i have done my Ultra sound,Urine Culture and Uro flow. My ultra sound report show my Prostate size is 19 grm and post void insignificant at 22cc. my urine culture shows Pus cells 4-5/hpf and epithelial cell 2-3 rest is all ok and sterile. my Uroflow shows 12 ml flow rate. Hence my doctor said that the uroflow is less and he have prescribed me with trimethoprim 200 mg twice for 10 days and alfuzosin once for 10 days for uroflow. Now i take Betanicardia for Blood Pressure hence does it will interact with alfuzosin. I have taken 3 dose of the same but i feel cramps or pain in my bladder area so should i continue to take alfuzosin. I do not have any problem taking trimethoprim 200 mg. I would like to know should i continue take alfuzosin as i take Betanicardia for blood pressure.

Brief Answer:
Alfuzosin has interaction with Beta Nicardia

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, Hi
I appreciate your concern for the safety of the medications prescribed by your doctor.

I have gone through your query.
You have some sort of urine infection due to enlarged prostate gland.

You must complete the course of antibiotic Trimethoprim for the urine infection.
Alfuzosin is prescribed to increase the urine outflow caused by the obstruction due to enlarged prostate.

Alfuzosin is known to lower the BP hence if given along with Beta Nicardia, it may cause further lowering of the BP.

In view of the possible interaction between Alfuzosin and Beta Nicardia I advise you to kindly consult your treating doctor for the dosage adjustment of Beta-Nicardia while taking Alfuzosin.

Hope to have clarified your doubts.

Should you need to ask further, your follow-up query is appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Dosage reduction of Beta Nicardia

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, Hi
Thanks for your query.

As explained earlier the possibility of fall in BP if both the medicines are used together.

The dosage reduction of Beta-Nicardia to be made as long as you take Alfuzosin for the symptoms of enlarged prostate gland.

A similar interaction is also observed if Alfuzosin is prescribed along with Telpress (Telmisartan).

Hope to have answered your query.
