What Does This Biopsy Test Result Indicate?

Question: How are Stage 0 , Adenomas- flat kind, Rectum just above Anus; Bowel just below cecum across from Appendix removed in Feb, 2014.
2015- They found abrasions in spots where polyps had been removed.
Had bowel problems for 40 years. I'm 68 now. Any advice?

1. When the polyp was removed, the biopsy showed stage 0 adenoma.

So, the tumor is not infiltrated but localised in the mucosa layer.

2. In such cases, you are asked to repeat colonoscopy after 5 years from the moment the polyp was removed.

3. Abrasion is the lesion left after polyp removal and not worrisome.

How long should I expect the pain from removal of the polyps to last? I'ts been over a year and with my last colonoscopy 4 weeks ago the pain is worse.

Abrasion does not mean "a sore" in Gastro terms?

Abrasion in Gastro is more like a 'Scar"? - Nothing to worry about.

1. It will usually last 2 to 6 weeks after polyp removal for the pain to subside.

If the pain is getting worse, I advise to repeat colonoscopy to evaluate the changes again.

2. Abrasion is the scar after polyp removal. It won't usually cause pain for such long time. If pain has persisted for such long period, then, it is not related to abrasion but to IBS. In other words, it is more functional than organic.

The abrasions are 1 year old. It only hurts in the abrasion spots. It doesn't hurt all over as in"IBS". Is that normal?

Hi back,

1. First, I need to know how do you realize that the pain is coming from the abrasion spots? Some of my patients with the same problems as you were not able to determine if the pain they felt is on the abrasion spot.

2. IBS pain is not spread all over the abdomen. It can be a certain spot to feel the pain. At least, this is what has been reported by majority of my patients.

3. In your case, I still think that your soreness is due to IBS more than to a probable organic issue.
